How the job market has changed in 2024

The job markets in 2024 have undergone significant transformations driven by advancements in technology, shifts in workplace dynamics, and evolving economic conditions. Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are among the top priorities that shape the job landscape. AI and machine learning technologies are increasingly being integrated into business processes, automating routine tasks and enabling more efficient operations.

It has led to the creation of new job roles focused on managing, developing, and maintaining these technologies, such as AI specialists, data scientists, and automation engineers. However, it has also resulted in the displacement of some traditional jobs, particularly those involving repetitive tasks.

2023 World Economic Forum’s report predicted the following changes in 2024:

Divergent outcomes: Economic, health and geopolitical trends have created varied labor market conditions globally. High-income countries experience tight labor markets, while low- and lower-middle-income countries see higher unemployment.

Key drivers of transformation: 85% of companies are focusing on new technology adoption and implementation within the period of 5 years.

Technology adoption: Big data, cloud computing, and AI are key areas. Digital platforms, e-commerce, and education technologies are expected to see high adoption.

Automation: The slower pace of automation than expected, with a revised estimate that 42% of business tasks will be automated by 2027.

Skills and training: Companies prioritize training in analytical thinking, creative thinking, and AI.

Skill gaps and talent availability: Companies focus on internal training and development to close skills gaps.

The importance of professional development

Why does professional development matter? Recent studies, such as LinkedIn Learning’s Workplace Learning Report and Pew Research Center Study on Lifelong Learning and Technology, have shown that individuals who engage in continuous learning and obtain certifications are more likely to advance in their careers and secure higher-paying jobs.

Certification programs provide structured learning paths that help you gain the skills necessary to excel in your chosen field. It is beneficial for you to stay ahead with the latest developments and trends in your field – once you master your niche, you can expand your knowledge and explore new opportunities.

Benefits of continuous learning:

Career advancement: Employees who are regularly updating their skills are more competitive and adaptable to change. They are more likely to get promoted, receive a salary raise, and secure their position in the company.

Market relevance: Employees who are staying informed about industry trends and technology are more likely to bring change to their respective fields.

Innovation and creativity: New knowledge and perspectives provide a broader view of challenges employees might encounter in their daily processes.

Enhanced productivity: Learning new tools and technology can significantly boost department productivity and improve goals and achievements.

Improved wellbeing: Continuous learning can reduce stress and cognitive decline and improve mental health in general.

Top skills to have for a job in 2024

As we move further into 2024, several new skills are emerging as crucial for career success. Without a doubt, each field has its specific challenges to address, but the trends are more or less focused on a clear pathway.

Here are a few trending skills that you should consider learning:

Data literacy: With data’s increasing importance in decision-making processes, understanding and interpreting data is becoming a vital skill. This includes data analysis, data visualization, and basic statistical knowledge. For example, learning to use data analytics tools like Google Analytics, Microsoft Power BI, or Tableau can help you make data-driven decisions.

Digital transformation: As businesses continue to digitize their operations, understanding digital transformation processes and tools is highly valuable. This includes knowledge of digital marketing, eCommerce, document workflow automation, and digital project management. For instance, gaining skills in digital marketing strategies, using automation tools like Zapier, or understanding cloud computing platforms like AWS or Azure can be very beneficial.

Cybersecurity: With the rise in cyber threats, having a basic understanding of cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important. This includes knowledge of security protocols, data protection, and risk management. Learning about cybersecurity practices, understanding how to protect sensitive information, and staying informed about the latest security threats are critical skills.

Sustainability practices: With a growing focus on sustainability, understanding sustainable business practices is becoming important. This includes knowledge of environmental impact, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and green technologies.
What does a process analyst do?

So, what is a business process analyst? Evolution is integral to the survival of any organization. As new business objectives are set, new products and services need to be launched and new business processes must be put in place to support them.

With competition becoming more intense, companies are striving to achieve business automation success to thrive in the post-COVID world. Technologies like robotic process automation are becoming more commonplace. Moreover, when a business reaches a certain size, comes the time for process improvement.

Analysts are typically the engine for that change. They process high volumes of data to build reports, create new processes to replace the existing ones, and consult on how to build a process from the ground up for maximum efficiency.

Sometimes, you can see people using the terms “business analyst” and “business process analyst” interchangeably in web articles. While they have much in common, they actually refer to two distinct roles within a company’s organizational structure. Let’s make things clear before diving into the details of business process analyst jobs.

Watch the video below to learn more about the position of a business process analyst:

Understanding the role: Business process analyst vs. business analyst

At first glance, business analysts (BA) and business process analysts (BPA) may appear to share the goal of improving business operations. Both roles demand a profound grasp of the organization, problem-solving skills, and effective communication to streamline processes. Analysts collaborate across departments to pinpoint challenges, use analytics to make informed decisions, and suggest enhancements to drive the organization’s goals.

Still, the two roles differ significantly in focus and scope. A business analyst looks at various business needs, from tech to strategy and market analysis. BAs act as liaisons to clarify and document project requirements for stakeholders.

A business process analyst enhances and simplifies specific organizational processes by focusing on workflow efficiency and systems integration, identifying bottlenecks, and reengineering existing business processes for improved efficiency. BPAs use process mapping tools and modeling techniques to ensure each step adds value and eliminates redundancies.

In brief, business analysts primarily engage in comprehensive commercial analysis, whereas business process analysts predominantly concentrate on operational aspects. To help you avoid the mix-up between these professional roles, we’ve created a short comparison table:

Different roles in business analysis

Another important thing to consider is the wide range of business analyst specializations. If you’re aspiring to start a career in business analysis, understanding these roles will help you grasp the skills required to succeed in your job choice. Depending on the job responsibilities, these positions may include, but are not limited to:

Business analyst gathers requirements, identifies problems, and proposes solutions to help improve workflows, enhance efficiency, and achieve business objectives. BAs work closely with stakeholders, such as clients, end-users, and project managers, to understand their needs and translate them into functional specifications for IT teams or other departments.

Business process analyst specializes in analyzing business processes. This includes business process modeling, creating and implementing business analysis into these processes to effect change, especially when new procedures and policies are introduced. The process analyst job implies assessing business requirements and making recommendations to improve current processes. Finally, a BA is also responsible for the overall process performance.

Process improvement analyst specializes in optimizing business processes within an organization. Their primary focus is to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement in existing processes and workflows. By utilizing various methodologies and data analysis techniques, Process Improvement Analysts aim to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and increase overall productivity.

Data analyst (or data process analyst) primarily gathers and interprets business metrics to solve a specific business problem. This job implies spending a number of hours on data analysis as well as communicating the findings.

Business intelligence analysts review data that becomes the basis for creating finance and market intelligence reports. Such reports highlight trends and patterns in a selected market which eventually influence a company’s operations and goals.

Business systems analyst helps organizations operate in a more effective way by designing and implementing IT systems. These professionals use both business and IT tools to assess an organization’s operating systems and develop improvements.

Operations analyst reviews and checks policies and procedures, and creates reports with guidelines on how to enhance a company’s operations. Other than gathering information, the responsibilities include identifying operational requirements, the appropriate methods of operations analysis, and more.

Salary insights for business process analysts and related roles

The salary range remains one of the most defining factors when considering one’s career. Let’s examine the trends within the business process analyst job market in the United States in 2024 and the key drivers behind them.

Where does the process of business analysis meet process automation?

You may have noticed that our Document Workflow Automation for Business Analysts certification focuses on learning automation in the context of becoming a business analyst. And there’s good reason for that.

In 2024, going digital is not so much a trend but a necessity to remain competitive in the market for almost any industry. Therefore, process automation has become an integral element of maintaining workflow efficiency, which is the BA’s area of responsibility.

To show you how process automation enhances business workflows and why companies choose to hire business analysts with process automation skills, we’ve prepared several real-file examples of implementing airSlate into an organization’s daily operations.

T2 Biosystems (healthcare)

Being an emerging leader in the field of in-vitro diagnostics, T2 Biosystems faced issues connected with forms processing (e.g., inability to save partially completed forms). As a rule, medical records contain highly sensitive information. Due to the compliance process of obtaining such data, T2 Biosystems was unable to revisit a form and complete it later without restarting the entire workflow.

The airSlate workflow automation platform provided T2 with the necessary integrations for streamlining such processes. For example, the Salesforce integration enabled T2 to send out forms to their clients and automatically attach completed documents that meet compliance regulations back into Salesforce.

The automation built by airSlate allowed T2 Biosystems to remove many manual steps, save employee time, streamline its processes, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Claremont Graduate University (education)

The key issue the Claremont Graduate University was facing concerned sending paper documents back and forth, which resulted in errors, misplaced signatures, and time and money lost. On average, it would take from three to six weeks to get an employment contract completed and signed. Besides, due to the huge amount of paper documents, file management and storage were also a heavy challenge.

To start, airSlate allowed CGU to go paperless. As a result, physical document sorting and storage issues were resolved. Another benefit was that CGU could now send dozens of contracts for signing within one day and receive completed copies by the end of the week.

These are just a few examples of how process automation helps business process analysts to accomplish their main objective — improving an organization’s business processes.

The bottom line

When a business reaches a certain size, its processes inevitably need review, alignment, and streamlining.

In 1898, Nikola Tesla held a demonstration of his remote-controlled mobile mechanisms in New York’s Madison Square Garden. It was probably the first time people questioned whether robots could replace humans and threaten their livelihoods. Today, with over a century of a mind-blowing history of automation behind us, the question persists.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digital transformation, leading to the adoption of automation technology across multiple areas of human life, including business. Today, teams and companies of all sizes—from small and medium-sized businesses to large enterprises—are striving to achieve business automation success to ensure the highest-quality production processes, resilience, and business continuity.

We have industrial robots and no-code software bots in charge of customer service. We keep AI-driven devices in our back pockets and use actual robots to clean our increasingly smart home. Whether it’s a fully automated advanced robotic process automation app or a dishwashing machine, each of these things uses automated algorithms in one way or another. Algorithms and artificial intelligence even tell us what to wear and watch.

But how did it happen? Are we still in control of our lives? What is our place in this automated world? And what are the lessons we still have to learn to get the most out of automation for our businesses and everyday lives? When did automation start?

Let’s take a deep dive and find the answers to these and other questions in this article.

When did automation start?

We believe it would be fair to say that the history of automation is just as old as the history of humankind. The very idea of having a mechanism that would operate in a predetermined way and perform specific actions while you’re sipping on a cocktail is probably as old as the world itself. In fact, it was Homer, the poet, not the cartoon character, who created the term ‘automation’ back in Ancient Greece while talking about a self-moving chariot.

It’s quite clear, however, that without proper engineering skills and knowledge, people weren’t capable of designing more sophisticated automation tools. And so, the real history of automation as we understand it today starts much closer than Homer. After all, both the Greeks and the Romans used their inventions for entertainment rather than improving their daily tasks.

Advancements in mill machinery during the 9th century

Significant progress was made in mill machinery during the 9th century, with a focus on harnessing renewable energy sources for various mechanical processes. Two prominent types of automated machines, watermills, and windmills, played pivotal roles in this era.

The earliest documented windmill design, designed for practical applications, can be traced back to the 7th to 9th century, courtesy of Persian inventors. These innovative automated machines were initially used to grind grain but later evolved to serve a wide array of mechanical functions.

While watermills provided more power relative to their size, windmills found utility in regions lacking access to flowing water. Over time, both technologies underwent continuous improvements and were adopted worldwide. They played a crucial role in reducing manual labor requirements across various industries, including:

1. Hammermills
2. Sawmills
3. Paper mills
4. Ore-crushing mills
5. Tool-sharpening mills

These developments in mill machinery marked a significant step forward in the mechanization of labor-intensive processes, contributing to increased efficiency and productivity across diverse industries. Notably, the first ever completely automated industrial process is associated with mills. It happened in 1785 when Oliver Evans invented and implemented his flour mill.

The First Industrial Revolution and the inception of the computer technology

It wasn’t until the First Industrial Revolution of the early 19th century that the automation timeline finally started making a significant impact on the manufacturing industry and people’s lives. The earliest examples of automation as we understand it today coincide with the implementation of industrial machinery somewhere around the early 1880s, which forever changed the ideas of mass production and human workers’ performance.

One of the most notable breakthroughs in the history of automation was Joseph Jacquard’s invention of the so-called ‘punch cards’ in 1801. These cards were used to tell mechanical looms what pattern to make. Using this technology, Charles Babbage began developing the concept of the first-ever programmable computer system, which he later called The Analytical Engine. Babbage’s friend Ada Lovelace, in the meantime, created the first-ever computer program, which would have run on his machine.

The Industrial Revolution and automation transformed mass production. Handcrafted goods became a relic of the past as mechanized processes and assembly lines fueled a surge in output. This efficiency lowered labor costs, making products more accessible.

The role of control theory in the development of automation

In the 19th century, control theory emerged as a branch of control engineering and applied mathematics dedicated to managing dynamic automated systems within engineered processes and machinery. Its primary objective is the formulation of models or algorithms that govern the application of input commands to guide a control system toward a desired state. In doing so, it aims to minimize any undesirable characteristics like delays, overshooting, or steady-state errors while maintaining stability. Additionally, control theory often strives to attain optimal performance.

The theoretical basis for understanding control theory took shape when James Clerk Maxwell published a paper, “On Governors,” in 1868. Maxwell’s publication covered the operation of governors, which were already employed to regulate the speed of windmills during that era. Within his scientific discourse, Maxwell not only described these governors but also delved into the phenomenon of self-oscillation, highlighting instances where system delays could lead to excessive compensation and unstable behavior.

Strides out of automation history: from industrial robots to AI

The 1950s marked the birth of industrial robots. These early machines, lacking the sophistication of their modern counterparts, were often large and single-purpose. However, their introduction signified a crucial shift towards industrial automation. Then, the 1960s saw the invention of the programmable logic controller (PLC). This innovation replaced complex relay logic with a more flexible and user-friendly control system. Programmable logic controllers allowed for easier programming and control of industrial processes, paving the way for greater automation adoption.

The 1970s witnessed the introduction of basic machine learning concepts into industrial automation. These early systems, though not as advanced as modern AI, offered a glimpse into the future of intelligent automation that doesn’t demand high human intervention. Additionally, the concept of a feedback control system gained traction during this decade. It utilized sensor data to adjust processes in real-time, optimizing efficiency and minimizing errors. This integration of machine learning and the feedback control system was a significant step toward the development of sophisticated AI-powered automated system later on.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the integration of computer technology into industrial automation increased drastically. This period saw the development of more powerful and versatile robots, as well as the rise of sophisticated software for process control and monitoring. These advancements pushed the boundaries of what was possible with automation, paving the way for the completely automated industrial processes we see in some manufacturing facilities today. However, the entire history of automation is not all success. A 1966 negative report about Natural Language Processing (a subsection of artificial intelligence) caused the so-called ‘AI winter ‘and delayed further development of automation and AI techniques for over three decades.

Lastly, another big step forward in the history of the automation timeline took place in the 1990s. An artificial intelligence called ‘Deep Blue‘ defeated Garry Kasparov at chess in 1997.

NASA launched its first autonomous robotics system on the surface of Mars. At the same time, web crawlers and other AI-based data extraction computer programs became a crucial part of widespread internet use.

The 1990s also marks a time when the history of automation was thoroughly intertwined with business process automation and management. In the early 2000s, automation development went quiet again until the release of Apple’s Siri. Siri de facto triggered a new age of AI-driven assistants. It also finally shifted the whole movement away from physical robots toward the development of robotic process automation and AI software.

The evolution of home automation: From sci-fi dreams to everyday reality

As these technologies continue to evolve, they hold the promise of further transforming how we live, work, and interact with the world.

What are automation’s current challenges?

If you think about it, we live in an exciting time. We have blockchain technologies, cyber surgeries, automated detection of fake data on social networks, robots and AI.

In the video below, we cover the pros and cons of automated business processes, as well as the common myths rooted in automation history and valuable tips:

For the first time in the history of automation, automated processes are actually available to everyone, allowing organizations to focus on what’s really important: customers, career, and business success. Automated methods are getting more and more polished and efficient, with automation software becoming a necessity rather than a luxury.

Of course, it’s still far from being perfect. Siri doesn’t always know the answer, Alexa occasionally mishears us and we all saw what a failure Microsoft’s Tay turned out to be.

Despite all the shortfalls in automation history, AI and automation are more versatile today than ever before, with a bunch of exciting automated business process trends knocking on our doors:

No-code automation and APIs

Most businesses today use APIs to integrate third-party apps and services. At first APIs have been expensive and hard to onboard, leaving little space for team collaboration. As the API technology perfected, it has proven to be an efficient tool that allows for integrating no-code workflows into diverse business operations seamlessly. This evolution in API technology has opened up new avenues for businesses, enabling them to effortlessly blend various software solutions without the need for complex coding processes.

As a result, team collaboration has significantly improved, breaking down the barriers that once hindered smooth integration. The future of automation is likely to be shaped by these advancements, where APIs will continue to play a pivotal role in enhancing collaboration, streamlining workflows, and fostering innovation. Businesses can now harness the power of APIs to create customized, interconnected automated systems, ensuring a more agile, efficient, and collaborative future in the realm of automation.

End-to-end workflows

End-to-end workflows deliver a full data lifecycle while supplying all the necessary components along the way. In simple words, it means that your entire team collaborates on workflows within a single workspace. No more budgeting for multiple service vendors or integrations between them! The end-to-end approach gives you the ability to build even the most complex business processes without having to integrate multiple products.

Human augmentation

Human/staff augmentation is a business strategy that consists of evaluating the existing employees and determining what additional skills they require. Augmentation’s most significant advantage is that it leverages existing resources and utilizes an outsourced workforce. Today, the need to quickly and flexibly address workflow issues and bottlenecks is as relevant as ever before. Staff augmentation can help companies manage most of the tasks with their regular internal teams and with minimal assistance from IT. airSlate’s recent report for HR executives revealed there’s still a giant opportunity to automate repetitive tasks.

No matter how automated your business processes are, they’re still reliant on the unique architecture of your business. And thus require human supervision. That’s why we’re pretty confident that the future of work will still involve humans in one way or another — with the focus shifting toward what technology can do WITH humans rather than WITHOUT them.

The history of automation, despite a few bumps along the way, is a history of success. It continues to evolve, providing us with more innovative AI solutions, such as GPT-4. Technology has finally reached the point in the automation timeline where it’s simply cheaper, faster, and more reliable to have mundane tasks completed via automated tools.

But how can you get the most out of automation?

First of all – we have to learn

Humans have always been part of automation history. However, we have gone from ‘creator’ or ‘human workers’ to an inseparable part of automation. Today, without knowing how to navigate automation, we will hardly get the most out of it.

A valuable piece of advice is not to focus solely on the developments in your own industry. Of course, learn about them, but broaden your horizons and investigate more. Modern-day document workflow automation, computer systems, and AI technologies are deeply connected. Without knowing how to apply them, businesses will struggle. As SMBs navigate the landscape of recovery, the rapid integration of automation and AI tools is becoming not just a trend but a necessity. Check out the full report for details.

By learning automation, you will understand how to apply the right process automation strategy to your company’s workflows, calculate ROI, and deploy solutions inside your organization.

The airSlate Academy teaches students everything they need to know about the future of work trends and the emerging industry of digital transformation, and gives them a real chance to become a pioneer in workflow automation. Moreover, by acquiring skills in new technologies, you get a unique opportunity to make yourself future-proof, enhance your career and business development.

That’s actually why we wrote this article. Learning the history of automation is a vital part of learning modern document workflow automation trends.

It’s important to know how to choose

Many inventions through the automation timeline failed, and many more have yet to prove themselves.

Today, we are at the stage of the automation timeline when we have plenty of platforms and tools that streamline our daily operations as well as enhance and develop our business processes. The main point is that there are plenty of them and that they’re pretty expensive, so it becomes really hard to choose the right tools.

So, what should you consider when choosing a business automation solution?

Consider these four key points before investing in workflow vendors if you’re planning to automate in the future:

How do you plan to on-board your workflow participants?

How many of your workflows can you implement eSigning, automation, conditional routing, integrations, dynamic webforms, contract negotiation, or document generation to?

How long will it take you to implement your new workflow or change it?

Consider your company’s future needs because workflows can change or become more complex.

The points above tell us that what we need is flexibility. We’ve already mentioned the two main automation timeline trends: no-code automation and end-to-end workflows. These trends usually come together.

An end-to-end workflow is a process that delivers a full document and data lifecycle while supplying all the necessary components along the way.

However, as we mentioned before, integrations are almost unavoidable and can be expensive when attempting to automate your workflow using any of the popular workflow automation software solutions today.

A lack of flexibility is where you find the biggest weakness in major workflow providers. Any time your workflow needs a new feature, you’ll have to pay for integrations from a third-party vendor. That’s why, when you really look under the hood, end-to-end workflow automation is extremely expensive, if not impossible. By investing your time and money into such a solution, you just distance yourself from what your business really needs: an adjustable and transparent document and data workflow at a reasonable price.

With business automation platforms like airSlate WorkFlow, it’s the user who adjusts everything, and no engineering support is required. In this case, end-to-end workflows feature:

Get all the tools you need to complete and automate your workflow without paying extra for third-party solutions and API integrations.

Finding the perfect remote workflow automation tool for your business won’t change your behavior or processes, it’ll enhance them. And that’s the point the history of the automation timeline leads us to. Automation is not something to be scared of, it’s something that you create and use to empower yourself and your business.

Three things we now know for sure

Whether we like it or not, the future WILL BE automated. The future of automation is likely to revolutionize industries by increasing efficiency and reducing human intervention and labor in repetitive tasks. Low-code and no-code technologies are irreplaceable for companies looking to sustain their success in future automation timelines. Learning automation will help your business grow.

The feared robot takeover seems to be postponed once again. Bots and AI will take the brunt of the most monotonous, technical work, leaving all creative and people-oriented activities to human workers.

It’s digital natives who will rule the game soon. Most of today’s university graduates are so-called ‘digital natives’ or ‘citizen developers’.

As exciting as current and future tech is, we shouldn’t forget the automation history before us or the work it has taken to get us where we are today. After all, the way things are going, our today will become our past in the blink of an eye.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) was common practice before the global pandemic. Research suggests that in 2018, 57% of organizations performed pilot tests for solutions to automate at least one business process. The emergence of COVID-19 led to the increased adoption of digitization and business automation technologies. Because of these rapid changes, many were left wondering “what is a bot?” and how are no code bots used to streamline remote business transactions?

Software robots: how do they work?

A bot is a software application that runs automated tasks for you, so you don’t have to perform complex and/or repetitive operations manually. Bots operate based on their instructions, without any human interaction. The bots employed in bot automation complete a task or a set of repetitive tasks much faster than regular human users would be able to. There are different types of bots: trigger-based, rule-based, scheduled, those that work around the clock, etc.

airSlate has two types of Bots: Automation and Integration.

Are you thinking about utilizing document workflow automation for your business? You’re not the only one, as many organizations are turning to this to improve business processes. It can be a great way to boost productivity, reduce human errors, and minimize costs.

So, what exactly can it do for your business, and how can it help CRM administrators with their tasks? Let’s explore the key advantages of document workflow automation.

What is CRM workflow automation?

CRM workflow automation refers to automating sequences of actions within a customer relationship management (CRM) system. These actions are triggered automatically when specific predefined rules are met. Essentially, CRM workflow automation involves the partial or complete automation of workflow processes in a CRM.

This automation functions through custom “if-this-then-that” (IFTTT) sequences, activated when a customer engages with a specific action, such as submitting a form. Implementing CRM workflow automation has demonstrated clear benefits, including increased productivity and efficiency within businesses while reducing the reliance on manual intervention.

For instance, an efficient CRM workflow automation scenario might involve a customer lodging a complaint with a sales team member, and the system automatically manages and resolves the complaint without extensive human involvement.

What is the document workflow process?

The document workflow process systematically manages the generating, tracking, editing, and storing of documents utilized within business operations. By using a document workflow management system, businesses can streamline handling a substantial volume of work that may otherwise impede daily operations. This transition from physical paperwork in filing cabinets to digital management provides significant efficiency benefits.

Such systems are designed to oversee the flow of documents comprehensively throughout the organization. A robust document workflow management system ensures that employees, managers, and colleagues can access and control all pertinent documents within the organization.

How to implement CRM workflow automation

To use workflow automation efficiently, CRM administrators should follow these key steps:

Identify the processes needing automation, typically those involving repetitive or manual tasks that are susceptible to human error.

Map out the intended automation process, considering the administrator’s perspective on how document workflow automation should be used for optimal benefit.

Define business goals and assess how workflow automation can contribute to cost reduction, error minimization, or productivity enhancement, clarifying the desired outcomes of the automation process.

Research and select the most suitable document workflow automation software, ensuring it encompasses all the necessary features and functionalities for daily organizational operations.

Conduct comprehensive training sessions to familiarize employees with the new software and maintain regular training to keep processes current, especially as software features evolve.

Continuously enhance the automation process by gathering employee feedback and assessing its alignment with business goals, improving the user experience and the overall automated workflow.

Here’s an example of document workflow automation in action:

11 advantages of document workflow automation for CRM administrators

Here are eleven advantages of document workflow automation for CRM administrators.

1. Reduced errors

Human error can be expensive for businesses, particularly in manual data entry. Using an automated system significantly lowers the likelihood of such errors, promoting confidence in the workflow automation system implemented.

For example, when a prospective customer completes a contact form, a sales automation system can automatically transfer their details into a sales leads list. This process not only organizes the list automatically but also ensures easy future access to customer information. Manual data entry by an employee could potentially lead to inaccuracies.

Furthermore, an automated system affords employees more time to concentrate on other value-adding tasks for the business. As the system mitigates overall risk, employees can devote their attention to more significant responsibilities.

2. Improved work satisfaction

Routine tasks, while necessary, can be tedious for employees and may contribute to job monotony. By delegating such tasks to automation, work satisfaction can significantly improve as employees get freed from their mundane responsibilities.

This shift could also positively impact staff turnover rates. With job satisfaction at its highest since 1987, recent reviews have found that 70% of employees are not actively seeking new employment opportunities. This statistic suggests improved work satisfaction could lead to a more stable workforce.

3. Better collaboration and connectivity

When teams operate remotely, most communication happens online via a .ae domain or .com domain. This influx of online interaction leads to many emails, messages, and calls, making it challenging to locate specific information when needed. Document workflow automation provides a solution by tracking and organizing all interactions efficiently.

This system is especially beneficial for CRM administrators as it aids in maintaining well-organized records of colleague interactions. It also enhances customer relations by streamlining work processes, leading to quicker responses. By keeping interactions structured and accessible, workflow automation fosters better connectivity in remote work environments.

4. Improves business processes

Document workflow automation can enhance business operations by handling numerous administrative tasks, including data entry. This saves time and resources and eliminates the need for manual labor.

This automation allows businesses to concentrate on other significant aspects like customer service and marketing while routine tasks are automated in the background. Processes such as approval flows, task management and business procedures are automated, increasing efficiency and productivity.

5. Enhanced customer relationships

Document workflow automation can be a valuable tool for CRM administrators, as it aids in managing customer interactions and engagements. Businesses can foster more profound, meaningful client relationships by automating tasks like follow-ups, lead nurturing, and monitoring customer communication.

From a client’s perspective, these relationships may feel more personal and attentive. The time saved through document workflow automation is then redirected toward customers, making them feel more valued and prioritized. Thus, workflow automation increases efficiency and significantly improves the quality of customer relationships.

6. Improved productivity

Document workflow automation streamlines repetitive tasks, eliminating the need for manual execution. This boosts productivity as tasks are still completed, but it also frees up teams to concentrate on cultivating relationships with leads and closing deals.

CRM administrators will discover they have extra time to interact with customers and promptly address inquiries or complaints. The swift accomplishment of tasks enhances employees’ productivity and contributes significantly to the company’s overall success.

7. Better IT management

Understanding new integrated marketing communications and operating systems can be challenging for those who may not be tech-savvy. However, document workflow automation simplifies this by enabling you to accomplish numerous tasks using a single software system, eliminating the need to juggle multiple tools simultaneously.

Moreover, document workflow automation can serve as a repository for vital information related to all IT products. This allows users to easily navigate through user manuals and guides to find the relevant information for the software they’re using.

8. Improves scalability

Workflow automation enables the creation of reliable and precise processes, which in turn helps businesses expand their customer reach and grow. By automating work procedures, companies can save time and money, making it an attractive strategy for organizations seeking to enhance their scalability.

9. Better data management

Document workflow automation can be great for better-managing data. Whether that’s business data or customer data, using automation can help you store data in the most efficient way possible. This means you can easily ensure customer information is up-to-date, accurate, and accessible whenever you may need it.

If you need to analyze this data, it’s easy to get hold of, and you can organize it in whichever way benefits the business – such as most recent or alphabetically. This analysis can then be used for decision-making to better improve operations.

10. Increased sales

A document workflow automation system proficiently organizes all customer lead data, simplifying the task for sales teams to access required information for closing deals or tailoring special offers to specific customers. For instance, if a customer needs special rates on io tld domains, the data stored in the system would enable you to meet that request.

Moreover, this system fosters improved customer relationships through automated emails, timely follow-ups, and organized data storage. The automation software can efficiently manage essential documents like contracts and licenses, which are necessary for onboarding new customers.

11. Improved lead generation with automation

CRM administrators may utilize document workflow automation to streamline various sales funnel stages. For instance, it can automatically capture new client leads, transform them into data records, and delegate them to a suitable sales representative.

The system also assists employees in classifying existing leads based on their indicated interest in different products or services. It archives data from initial customer interactions, which could be anything from completing a form on your website, responding to an email, or engaging with a sales team member via live chat.

Moreover, workflow automation can collect data from online interactions or emails, helping to optimize sales efforts and provide insights into customers’ specific needs and preferences.

No-code technology is the building of applications and software functionalities without writing a single line of code. No-code platforms usually support development using a graphical interface or through settings. These platforms have become far more comprehensive in recent years and can be powerful.

Many office workflows can now be quickly automated using no-code. So, small and medium-sized organizations can streamline these workflows even without a dedicated software developer. The automation can be done quickly and bug-free. A number of organizations would benefit from learning how no-code can be implemented.

airSlate, a leading office workflow automation company, offers an extensive no-code toolkit, which can be pictured as a set of assemblable parts. Workflows supported by airSlate might include sending forms, sending emails, sharing contracts complete with legally binding eSignatures, populating documents and spreadsheets with data, and more.

Some of the courses in airSlate Academy’s professional development track. Screenshot mine.

Each course begins with a general overview of document workflow automation and its usefulness in various industries. From there, the courses describe the challenges the professionals face in their job roles, the value of workflow automation, and several specific workflows that can be automated to help address these challenges.

They then provide instructions for participants to go hands-on and implement one workflow for a common task for their type of job. The courses end with a quiz, a certificate for those who pass, and an assignment that would involve exploring the platform.

An example: Document Workflow Automation for Chief Revenue Officers

Chief revenue officers oversee sales-related and other client-related paperwork, which can be extensive and very repetitive. They also analyze the data related to revenue generation. Budget approval, sales quotation, and contract management are common workflows and are illustrated in the course.

The course also contains detailed instructions for building an automated account summary report workflow, as well as the business case for automation and several case studies. After passing the final quiz and receiving a certificate, there is another assignment to pre-fill a document template with records from Salesforce using a bot.

Another example: Document Workflow Automation for IT Professionals

IT professionals are generally technical. No-code expertise is part of gaining the highest level of technical knowledge. Part of the role of technology is to implement processes in the most maintainable, efficient ways. Even for the most skilled programmers, building workflows with no-code is likely to be faster and easier for others to maintain.

Automating a workflow in the Document Automation for IT Professionals course. Screenshot mine.

The structure of the course for IT professionals is fairly similar to the structure of the course for chief revenue officers, but with different examples of how to use airSlate. The course describes making IT equipment requests, incident reports, and employee account creation and illustrates how to automate an IT requests and approvals workflow.

Transforming into a no-code technologist

airSlate’s courses are credentials for specialized roles such as system admins, as well as high-level roles such as C-level executives and VPs of operations. It has a point — keeping an organization competitive means staying abreast of the technologies required to make it more efficient.

The descriptions and illustrations of the application and the hands-on exercises are key for encouraging this understanding. From knowing little or nothing about no-code, a Professional Development track course can make a professional into a no-code developer aware of the applications of no-code to their department and role.
